Terre di Talamo is located south of Grosseto, in the Tuscan Maremma. The D.O.C.G. is Morellino di Scansano. The hill of 52 hectares of this estate is just few miles from the sea, and offers a view from the port of Talamone to the Argentario promontory. The hill is planted with 35 hectars of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Alicante, Petit Verdot, Vermentino and Viognier. The soils are quite stony and consist of a mixture of brown clay. The wines of Terre di Talamo are characterized by a strong minerality thanks to the geographical position of the estate that is so close to the sea.
The sea in front of Talamone is the aging cellar for Talamo IGT, the prominent red wine of Terre di Talamo. 9000 bottles of the valuable wine are now on the bottom of the sea at 35 meters deep, where there is a stable temperature of 16 degrees that will complete the aging process. This is the first experiment of underwater cellar for a still wine; for this task they have been gathered together all the excellences of the underwater operations with the attendance of the stars of underwater sports. The bottles have been places thanks to a 40 meters pontoon and the cooperation of Cressi Sub brand. The chosen spot it was chosen properly to avoid any natural impact; also the wine is a 0 km product as Terre di Talamo is close to the immersion point.
“not only the temperature”, says Marco Bacci, “but also the sea movent we are sure that will benefit our wine. I’ve noted this because the wines in my boat are aging better”.
